Dunphy Park, the main community park and the heart of Sausalito, was showing 30 plus years of wear. Recreational amenities and landscape furnishings were in disrepair, many of the site’s large trees were dead or dying, and its beach was badly eroded. In an effort to raise public awareness and promote revitalization of Sausalito’s waterfront, APDW provided site field and behavior observations, photographic surveys, community questionnaires, and facilitated a series of community forums with the town’s key stakeholder groups. The park’s successful and sacred features were documented as well as those most in need of renewal. A master plan resulted from this research effort to help guide the City’s ability to identify funding grants available for restoring the park.
