ASLA NCC Design Merit Award
In addition to the American Society of Landscape Architects Northern California Chapter’s honor Award, April Philips Design Works was awarded the 2015 Design Merit Award for their work at VF Outdoor.
The corporate campus design was a 15 acre project for industry leading brands such as; The North Face, JanSport and lucy. The facility was certified LEED platinum located on the Alameda waterfront. The vision created for the campus integrated the company’s global environmental values of exploration and stewardship of the earth. A healthy lifestyle approach meshed with utilizing the shoreline fostered pedestrian interaction and formulated social gathering spaces.
Key landscape elements include a solar farm, wind harvesting, coastal habitat meadows, a community lawn, workspace and contemplative decks, trails, and a salad farm providing fresh produce for the campus wellness cafeteria. April worked the urban farming into the program, but the client was a major proponent of the concept. A common theme from inception to fruition was the flow of space encapsulating the outdoors and bringing it inside to everyday life. Now not only do the brands embody outdoor exploration, but their workspace and campus brings it to life.
